Mrs. Richard is originally from West Virginia. She received her Bachelors degree from West Virginia University for Agriculture and Extension Education. She also holds a Masters degree, also from West Virginia University, in Agriculture. She got her first professional employment opportunity through Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service as a 4-H Youth Development and Agriculture Extension Educator in Southwest Indiana.

     She then started her teaching career at Heritage Hills High School where she taught for three years before coming to Castle High School in the fall of 2017. She resides in Santa Claus, Indiana with her husband Michael and their son Warren (Age 5). Prior to COVID-19 they spent their spare time making memories visiting fun and exciting places with Warren like CMoE, Dubois Bombers baseball games, local parks and going to the movies. Over the summer they spent most of their time going for hikes and swimming at the lake. 

Biochemistry of Foods

(Science Credit)

Course for Junior and Senior students to look at the chemistry and biology behind the food you eat. Labs are made to go along with what is being taught during class. Students have the opportunity to take this course and receive a science credit. This is NOT a culinary class. Labs relate to the science being taught in the classes, not just to cook.

Nutrition & Wellness

(And Advanced)

Course is designed for Sophomore-Senior students to gain more useful information on their own health and wellness to use in their lives after high school. Curriculum focuses on needs of various essential nutrients on a person-by-person basis to be utilized in goal setting for meal planning and exercise routines. Labs are an essential part of the class. However, the class is NOT a culinary class. Labs are all done with purpose.

Child Development

(And Advanced)

Course revolves around the development of small children all the way from conception to age 3. Includes several fun projects to better understand the physiology, biology and psychology behind growing up. Course also looks at many influences in the home and outside it that might effect one's childhood up until age 7.

Preparing for College and Careers

This class is designed to help high school students (9-12) help narrow down their choices for their future careers. While college is in the title of the class, this course is not set up to push the choice of college onto students. Instead students investigate their likes and values to help choose careers to do more research into. Students in this class also learn other valuable skills that they will take with them into adulthood to help them become better citizens such as employability skills, financial management, communication skills, resume building, interviewing skills and many more.
